We utilize state-of-the-art tests to examine the patient’s body systems and spend significant time analyzing the results, then design the most appropriate protocol for you to maximize your potential. In essence, just like if a check engine light comes on your dash, you can simply stop by an auto parts store and they plug in a computer that tells you exactly what the problem is. The testing protocols we employ can provide the same sort of analysis with the various body systems. In many instances, problems patients have suffered with for years are identified and then properly resolved.
Let’s start with functional medicine. Functional medicine is a systemic biochemical-centric approach to medicine wherein the focus is upon finding the root cause of the disease. For example, in the typical conventional tradition migraine headaches are most often treated with an analgesic or triptan. Often that might mitigate the pain but it does not address the underlying cause of that pain. Functional medicine seeks to find that cause and mitigate it as then there is no need for that pain medication.
Thousands of years ago, Hippocrates, the father of western medicine, said the cause of all disease begins in the gut. It’s only recently that science and medicine discovered the importance of the gut biome and its relationship to the whole being and what a human thinks or feels. Functional medicine embraces this concept as well as employing sophisticated tests to measure the condition of the genetic predispositions, metabolic and neural pathways, the hormonal balance of the being as well as considering toxicities and allergic reactions and sensitivities. By administering the necessary co-factors (nutrients, herbs etc.) it can make a dramatic difference in how one feels and in turn, thinks.
How we think and feel is dictated by the metabolic and chemical patterns in our cells and brain and this determines how we perform. Biohacking is a term used to equate the human system to a computer. The term speaks to determining the body’s status and then administering the appropriate minerals, or dietary regimes to create what we call homeostasis (perfect health) or to push the body to peak performance. In a nutshell, that is the sum of the total of all these areas: allowing and assisting the body to be the best it can be.
